About The Clan Quiz
The clan quiz is an initiative of the Face of Niger Delta Cultural Pageant (FONDCUP). It is initiated to create awareness, enlighten, and educate our younger generations about our values, history, culture, and tradition that is gradually going into extinction, through a quiz competition amongst secondary school students within the Niger Delta region, from Junior Secondary school three (JSS3) to Senior Secondary school three (SSS3).
Why This Project?
Culture, History, and tradition is an integral part of any society, and the Niger Delta region should not be an exception, as the region is blessed with rich natural resources, culture, traditions, history, and lifestyle. Our challenge in the Niger Delta region is the ability to preserve this great gift and resources we have, by passing them down to the next generation.
About 65% of children between the ages of 10 and 18 years in the Niger Delta region have no proper and comprehensive knowledge of the history, culture, and tradition of our people. Due to this, the vital parts of our history, culture, and tradition within the region are on the brink of experiencing complete extinction.
In the next 50 to 100 years, the history, culture, and traditions of some parts of the Niger Delta region would be completely lost and forgotten if no action is taken to deliberately bring us back to our roots. It is for this reason, ‘THE CLAN QUIZ’ is initiated as a means of preserving our History, Culture, and Tradition, by infusing culture into education at the Secondary School level, by engaging secondary school students in a quiz competition, where they are expected to answer questions on our history, culture, values, tradition, etc.
It is important that we know who we really are as a people, as this will help us appreciate our values and beliefs more, caution the younger generation and help fix our crumbling economy and unite us as one people. Therefore, passing this historical and very important knowledge to the younger generation will aid the preservation of the history, culture, traditions, values, ethics, beliefs, and lifestyle of the Niger Delta people.
